Southwestern Missouri';s business environment is diverse with medical, retail, and agriculture industries at the top of the economic impact list (as of 2020 Q3). Honeywell, Bass Pro, O'Reilly Automotive, Emerson Electric, and Burns and McDonnell. Entertainment and Leisure businesses, most notably those venues located in and around Branson, also make major contributions to the area';s economy. The Springfield-Branson National Airport opened its new terminal in 2009 (renamed for Senator Roy Blunt in 2022) with more than 1 million total passengers in 2018. More than a dozen major airlines have flights to Springfield with flights to more than 15 major destinations.
